The Conquistador Cup Regatta held in early March since 1993. For many years, it was run by past-commodore Dave Hanson and sponsored by the Royal Order of Ponce Leon Conquistadors. In 2006, Dave turned over this event to PGSC. It is a full weekend of sailing & fun. Saturday’s events consist of two races followed by a dinner. On Sunday, the sailors compete for the Conquistador Cup.
Save the date for next year's Conquistador Cup:
March 14-16, 2025.
The best way to fully enjoy this regatta is to race on Saturday and Sunday and take part in all the social activities. If you are new to racing and concerned about the close quarter maneuvers of the racing starts, no worries! Just join the Sunday Reverse Start event, which some refer to as “The Follow the Leader Race”. On Sunday, the boats will start one-at-a-time based on handicap. The slowest boats start first followed by the faster rated boats. This minimizes congestion and stress at the starting line. Sunday's race is a really fun race and is a great event for families and couples to participate in. The Sunday race is a PHRF event and if you do not have a PHRF rating, we will give your boat a one-day handicap rating for that race. For those out of town, contact Fishermen's Village Marina (941-575-3000) or the Isles Yacht Club (941-639-7551) for dock availability and reservations. Be sure to mention that you will be part of The Conquistador Cup Regatta. Also, we can attempt to find private docks, or you can anchor off the Boat Club where the social events will be held.

PGSC was started in the early 1970s by a group of sailors interested in racing their sailboats. In 1974, our first commodore was elected and the club was formalized. An active cruising schedule was added in 2000. We officially incorporated in October 1975.
