2015 Fall Series Finale

After spending about 5 hours on the water yesterday on Zoh Bah, rushing home to put dry clothes on and then to the after race picnic, I was too “done in” to get the race results out Sunday evening…
For those that were on the water yesterday it was a good way to end the Fall Series with fresh Force 4-5 winds and a bit of chop! Joe Periard gave the racers a good course  - the longest course of the Fall series.
First and foremost, I wish to thank all of the Race Committee volunteers that have helped out with RC duties for the past year. Racers, remember to thank them when you see them, as without them, there would be no organized racing at PGSC! Final Fall Series results will be announced by your new Race officers for the coming year - Dave Cleverly and Bob Knowles -  after they have had the opportunity to review and/or correct my calculations. Finally, I sincerely wish you all a Happy Holiday Season and a healthy and Happy New Year!

Fair Winds and signing off…. Phil Sanders, 2015 Co-Race Chair

2015 Inaugural Hospice Cup Regatta in benefit of Tidewell Hospice

The 2015 Hospice Cup was a combined effort between CHYC and PGSC. With a drive to balance the effort to host regattas on Charlotte Harbor, the PGSC “Holiday Regatta”, held in mid December, was transitioned to Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club for 2015. The event was also re-purposed from a low key, break event “fun” event to a more meaningful fund raising event……….

Fall Series Race #2

Well racers, as those that showed up and reported into the Race Committee ready to race today, again the wind has been elusive. Let’s hope this trend does not continue for future races! A big thank you to the Race Committee volunteers today. Next scheduled race of the fall series is October 4. We are still looking for a member with a good size powerboat that would be willing to help out by being the Race Committee Boat for a few future races. If anyone has the slightest interest be sure to let us know. Thanks! Fair Winds…Phil Sanders, Co-Chair Race, PGSC

Fall Series Race #1

This afternoon was the first race of the fall series. Seven boats checked in with the Race Committee ready to race for the day. It took over an hour for the wind to fill in and the race to start. A 3.36 nautical mile course was called for by Race Officer Dennis Peck. The start occurred at approximately 1434 hours. The Fleet’s first leg was to weather, riding the tidal current. Unfortunately, the wind did not hold long enough for all classes of boats to finish within the time limit. When it became apparent the Cruising and Spinnaker classes would not finish within the time limits, the race was abandoned. The Spinnaker Class was able to finish. You should find the preliminary race results attached. A big thank you to Roy Strelchun, our committee boat skipper and all the RC volunteers that had a long day on the water. Roy made sure one of the fleet made it back safely to the dock in threatening weather. It was a long day for those on the committee boat. Race #2 is scheduled for September 20th. For those that haven’t yet registered for the Fall Series, remember the deadline to register to be scored in the Series is September 21st. Sail on… Phil Sanders Co-Chair Race
